Being a Patriot

Patriotism is the love or devotion one has for one’s country. It is a very natural phenomenon. Just as we are loyal to our family and our loved ones and would be protective of them, in the larger picture, we as citizens of a Nation, would identify with it and defend it at all costs.

Being a patriot is not only for Armed forces personnel or the other fighting forces, it is for each and every one of us. India is our country, with all its goodness and evil. Nothing or no other country can compare to it. In the same way, a patriot must understand that people from other countries feel the same sentiment towards their country and countrymen. Therefore, every Nation is to be respected. You have to give respect to gain it. It is not good enough to be a patriot and feel the nationalistic fervour on Independence Day and Republic Day only or during an India-Pakistan match. Being a patriot implies that you conduct yourself at all times in a manner that will benefit your country and countrymen. Keeping your surroundings clean is a small step to keeping your Nation clean. There are some duties that we ought to do as citizens and we must do them wholeheartedly.

When you hear the National Anthem and see the tricolor don’t you feel a tingle across your body? The pride one has for one’s country should lead us to work towards its growth. Being dishonorable or accepting dishonorable behavior and actions is unpardonable in a country that has given us so much.
