Humpty Dumpty had a Great Fall
At twenty two, unmarried young women tend to get conscious in company and when there are handsome young men around, it gets worse. They try to be even more prim and proper. Such is the human psyche. I was no exception. I had put on this facade of being the elegant young lady at a function and was fairing quite well. Then, an announcement was made for all to sit down as the show was about to begin. As gracefully as I could, I moved with a friend to get a seat near a group of charming men. We got seats directly in front of them. We exchanged a few glances and shy smiles and settled down. I was clad in trousers much against my wishes but mother had insisted that I be fully covered as it was chilly. Thank goodness for that! Within minutes of sitting down and before the lights dimmed, I let out a small shriek because I found myself upside down on the floor! The leg of the plastic chair buckled under me, dropping me ruthlessly in front of those I was trying to impress. I got up too embarrassed to look around me amidst giggles that I heard and some shameless laughter. I turned red or perhaps purple with embarrassment but kept on the facade to save my face. I could not pay attention to the show as much as I would have liked to as all I wanted to do then was to disappear!
