Do Jeweled Watches Really Have Jewels?
Indeed, the jewelled watched have real jewels, but they are inside the watch, not on the dial so that you cannot see them when you look at the watch to see the time – sometimes these jewels are merely tiny bits of gem like stones, but at one time diamonds and sapphires were also used.
Inside the watch there are tiny wheels which must keep moving while the watch is working. The parts and wheels inside the watch are crowded within a small area and since they keep moving against each other, they wear down. To make them last longer, matchmakers place tiny bits of the hardest available substances – gemstones. The more jewels a watch has, the longer it should last.
