How old was Joan of Arc?
Saint Joan of Arc was born on January 6, 1412 and is being honoured by the people of France as one of their greatest heroines. She was hardly nineteen years old when she died on May 30, 1431.
At the time when she became young almost all parts of France was governed and ruled by a powerful group of nobles called Burgundians who had joined hands with the English, having clear-cut intention to have administrative control and ultimately wanted to capture and dominate the entire France by hook or by crook.
At the age of thirteen, suddenly she listened the “voices” of Saints Catherine. and Margaret and that of Michael the Archangel. The voices told her that she must be determined to bring peace to France by bringing Dauphin Charles to the throne, the legal heir of the crowned king.
Joan was able to convince Charles at the appropriate time and said she could lead his troops to victory. Under the able guidance of Joan, French soldiers defeated the English and Dauphin was crowned Charles VII and hence ultimately the dreams of Joan were materialized.
Sooner or later the king could not extend full support and protection to continue the fight and as a result of this the French troops had to suffer indispensable and irreparable losses. Unfortunately, Joan was trapped and captured by the Burgundians, a powerful group of nobles.
She was accused of being a witch.Although, Joan behaved with great bravery when she was tried in the court of law yet unfortunately her judges belonged to France. Clergymen, the supporters of Burgundians and English, who perhaps, deliberately found her guilty and put her behind the bars for ever and lastly she was sentenced to death.
Sometime in 1455, a bench consisting of eminent and distinguished judges was constituted so as to unearth the mystery. They held that she had been wrongly executed. The catholic church declared her a saint and in her memory they still celebrate her death anniversary, May 30.
Her tragic story has become the most inspiring integral part of the history and various books, plays and ballads have been written about her personality cults.
